Production of Heavy Rails Set to Jump
Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex in the DPRK is stepping up the arrangements for boosting the production of heavy rails.

It is energetically pushing forward the work to hit its clear targets to develop varieties of structural steel for the production of rails with locally available resources and raw materials, round off the rolling process and establish a new Juche iron making center, etc.

At present the project for constructing an industrial structure and the assembling of a facility are making progress.

As a result, a technological preparation for producing heavy rails has been completed while the overhauling of equipment and a project for reconstructing a production building have been wound up in the main to lay a solid foundation for production.

The Ministry of Machine-building Industry and the Ministry of Construction and Building Materials Industry and other related units are helping the complex.

The complex was provided with a large quantity of scrap iron by North Hwanghae Province.

A research group of Kim Chaek University of Technology conducted more than 30 tests on iron melting and at least 100 coupons, deciding upon the rational composition of steel for rails.

A signal turn is expected to take place in boosting the production of heavy rails thanks to the painstaking efforts made by the complex and related units.
