Birthday of Kim Jong Il Marked
Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- Events were held abroad on Feb. 9 and 10 to celebrate February 16, the birthday of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

They included meetings in Germany and Austria, celebrations in Mongolia, round-table talks and film show in Uganda and Korean book and photo exhibition by the Secretariat of the Pan-African Movement.

On display at the venues were works of President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il, photos on their undying exploits and books and photos introducing the DPRK.

Speeches were made at the events.

The vice-chairman of the C.C., Communist Party of Germany said it is great encouragement to the world progressives that the Korean people are reliably defending the cause of socialism under the Songun leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The vice-chairman of the Austrian preparatory committee for celebrating February 16 noted that rapid progress has been made in all fields of the economic construction in the DPRK thanks to the devoted activities of Kim Jong Il.

The chief of the Kim Jong Il Kindergarten in Darhan Ol Province of Mongolia stressed that the Korean people have achieved signal successes in building a great prosperous and powerful nation under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The chairman of the Kampala City Committee of the Uganda National Resistance Movement, the executive assistant to the general secretary of the Pan-African Movement and other speakers hoped that the Korean people would achieve greater success in the efforts to build a thriving nation and accomplish the cause of national reunification.

Messages of greetings to Kim Jong Il were adopted at the events in Germany, Austria and Mongolia.
