Korean People Remember Writer Jo Ryong Chul
Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- Opera "A Dream of Red Mansions" hit a great sensation among the Korean and Chinese people.

Its libretto was written by writer Jo Ryong Chul (November 1913- May 1993), a winner of Kim Il Sung Prize.

In his lifetime Jo created many literary and art works and adapted and adorned national classics.

Among them are lyrics "Song of National Defence", "Off We Go, Brindled Ox", "The 2 000-ri Amnok River", "Song of Mangyongdae" and "If Our Mother Party Wishes" and libretto of Opera "Eight Fairies of Mt. Kumgang".

He also made a special contribution to adapting masterpiece "The Fate of a Self-defence Corps Man" for an opera and creating folk opera "Tale of Chun Hyang".

The books on his works include "Selection of Poems by Jo Ryong Chul" (1957) and "Collection of Plays by Jo Ryong Chul" (1961).

He is still remembered by the Korean people for having contributed to the development of the Juche-based literature and arts with his high ability.
