Rodong Sinmun on Best Way for Korea's Reunification
Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- It is the consistent stand of the DPRK to improve the north-south relations in the interests of the Korean nation and reunify the country independently and peacefully on the basis of reconciliation and unity, says Rodong Sinmun in a bylined article Tuesday.

The article goes on:

President Kim Il Sung advanced the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo 30 odd years ago. Nothing is better than this way for reunification as it correctly reflects the specific conditions of Korea and fully conforms with the demand and interests of the whole nation.

This proposal calls for founding a Federal Republic through establishment of a unified national government on the condition that the north and the south tolerate each other's differing ideology and social system, a government under which they exercise regional autonomy.

The reunification by federal formula is based on the realistic logic that those with differing ideas can live together in one country and differing systems can exist in a unified state. To found a unified state through federal formula based on one nation, one state, two systems and two governments is the best way for putting an end to the tragedy of the nation's division and reunifying the country at an early date both in view of the urgent requirement of the nation and the specific conditions of the north-south relations.

The validity of the said proposal has been clearly proved in the practice for national reunification. Through the historic June 15 joint declaration the north and the south of Korea declared before the whole world that they recognize that the north side-proposed low-level federation and the south side-proposed confederation have something in common with each other and will reunify Korea in this direction.

The adoption of the June 15 joint declaration brought about an epochal turn in accomplishing the Koreans' cause of national reunification.
