Stop to Projected Joint Military Exercises Demanded in S. Korea
Pyongyang, February 20 (KCNA) -- South Korean civic and public organizations held a press conference in Seoul on Feb. 16 demanding a halt to the projected Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military exercises. They included the Solidarity for Progress, the Confederation of Trade Unions and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification.

They denounced the warlike forces for planning military exercises.

The "government" is describing them as annual and defensive ones but the armed forces are formed for offensive battle and the content of the exercises for this year includes the expansion and escalation of the drill for coping with the "emergency situation" simulating the collapse of someone, in particular, the organizations said. This reveals the aggressive nature of the exercises, they added.

It is an act of chilling the atmosphere of dialogue for the warlike forces to mobilize even the offensive means including aircraft carrier defying the demand at home and abroad for improved south-north relations and peace on the Korean Peninsula, they held.

The representatives of civic and public organizations in Seoul held another press conference on Feb. 14. They declared that they would stage a demonstration outside the U.S. embassy demanding a stop to the joint military exercises and the unconditional resumption of the south-north dialogue.
