Exhibition of Old Lamp Devices Opens
Pyongyang, February 19 (KCNA) -- An exhibition of old lamp devices opened at the Korean Folklore Museum on Feb. 3.

Displayed are more than 100 pieces that were used by the Koreans from the remote ages to the modern times. The exhibits are divided into three categories: lamp, candle and garden lantern.

Typical lamps include bronze lamp-oil container dating to Ancient Korea, stone lamp stand dating to the period of Koguryo, stone and gem lamp-oil containers belonging to the period of Koryo and tree and brass lamps belonging to the period of the Ri Dynasty.

Candles include iron candle stand dating to the period of Ancient Korea, stone candle stand to the period of Koguryo and bamboo knot candle stand to the period of the Ri Dynasty.

Drawing particular attention of the visitors is a white indoor candle stand depicting a legendary animal that is believed to fight fire.

Also exhibited are more than 48 garden lanterns of 22 kinds including those depicting lotus watermelon, crane, fish, garlic and turtle shell.

There are also photos of a stone lantern and gilt-bronze crystal-studded candle stand dating to the period of Palhae.

All lamp devices showcase the excellent handcraft skill of the Korean nation that has pursued practicality, artistry and decoration from the ancient times.

The exhibition is slated to last till August.
