New Unit to Be Deployed on Kurils

| Moscow, February 18 (KCNA) -- The chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, Nikolai Makarov, unveiled a plan to deploy a new unit on the Kuril islands. New-type weapons will be supplied to the unit by order of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev. A Defense Ministry official said the runway on Etorofu Islet would be expanded for air transport《Il-76》. He also expressed his view that it is necessary to deploy new armored vehicles and helicopters on the islands. |
