Korean Folk Dishes Taken on Jan. 15th of Lunar Year
Pyongyang, February 17 (KCNA) -- Koreans enjoy Thursday, the 15th of January in lunar calendar, as folk holiday.

On the occasion of this day, public catering centers in the DPRK serve traditional dishes, including boiled rice mixed with four other staple cereals, glutinous rice mixed with sugar, dates, chestnuts, pine-nuts, sesame oil, etc, dishes cooked with nine kinds of dried herbs and taffy.

Boiled rice mixed with four other staple cereals and glutinous boiled rice are peculiar in taste and highly nutritious.

The Korean people used to eat dishes cooked with dried greens on the 15th January in lunar calendar, believing that they are very effective in standing summer heat and preventing any diseases.

They also like to have several kinds of taffies made with sesame, pine-nuts, walnuts, chestnuts, dates, etc.

These sweet dishes are very popular among not only children but also adults.
