Seminar by Korean Social Scientists in Japan
Pyongyang, February 16 (KCNA) -- A seminar of Korean social scientists in Japan was held in Tokyo on Feb. 12 on the occasion of the birthday of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Present there were Ko Tok U, vice-chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon), and other officials of Chongryon, Korean social scientists and compatriots.

The theme of the seminar was "The settlement of historic task of Koreans in Japan and movement for gaining their position".

Kim Hwa Hyo, chairman of the Korean Social Scientists Association in Japan, made a report at the seminar. Then followed speeches.

The reporter and speakers praised Kim Jong Il for leading the cause of building a thriving nation to victory through his high intensity forced march.

The ideas of Kim Jong Il on the movement of the Koreans in Japan and the work of Chongryon serve as the guidelines for solving the basic issues of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan and organizing the struggle for defending their rights, they noted.

They said that the democratic national rights of Koreans in Japan are being gravely threatened owing to the Japanese authorities' hostile policy toward the DPRK and their discrimination and suppression of Koreans in Japan based on it.

They stressed the need for Chongryon to fully tap all its forces to tide over the present situation.
