Iron Production Bases Modernized
Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- Iron production bases have been technologically updated in the DPRK in recent years based on Korean-style iron production method and the latest science and technology.

The Songjin Steel Complex rounded off the advanced steel production method in which oxygen melting and refining processes are streamlined.

The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex succeeded in non-coke iron-making method at furnace and established the iron production system by high-speed reduction method. It also built new curved type strand-casting process.

The Chollima Steel Complex successfully built UHP electric arc furnaces Nos. 1 and 2, multielement alloy steel production base and high-quality fireproof material shop.

The Posan Iron Works is producing a great amount of Juche iron with a new method and sending them to the Chollima Steel Complex. It also completed a project for reconstructing revolving furnace No. 3 and set up oxygen separator of 550 cubic meters.

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex commissioned 100-ton electric furnace and put the power control and operation system and the electrode control system for UHP electric arc furnaces on a CNC basis. It is now introducing new rational technologies to round off Korean-style iron production process at a higher level.

The DPRK has a bright prospect for increased iron production as its iron and steel production bases are being modernized relying on domestic deposits of iron ore and coal resources.
