Interferon Production Industrialized
Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- The Medical Genetics Institute of Pyongyang College of Medicine of Kim Il Sung University has put the production of interferon on an industrial basis.

Interferon is indicated for prevention and treatment of viral diseases including C and B hepatitis and cancer.

The institute developed Korean-style gene expression technology and protein restructuring technology, establishing the up-to-date interferon production method. As a result, it far surpassed the advanced countries in the amount of interferon product and in its bio-activity.

Particularly, it set up simple and cost-effective process of separating and refining interferon, boosting production 1,000 times. This made it possible to produce massive amount of antiviral medicament needed for one year in a short span of time.

The establishment of the small-scale but highly profitable interferon production process would greatly contribute to the development of the country's pharmaceutical industry and bio-engineering.
