S. Korea Accused of Bringing Inter-Korean Talks to Rupture
Pyongyang, February 13 (KCNA) -- The People for Achieving Peace and Reunification in south Korea held a press conference in front of the building of the Defense Ministry on Feb. 10 condemning the authorities for bringing the preliminary talks for the opening of the north-south high-level military talks to rupture.

The organization charged that the talks broke down mainly because the south side insisted on its assertions, groundlessly urging the north to take a "responsible measure over the "Cheonan" warship incident and raising this as a precondition for dialogue.

It continued: As the essence of the high-level military talks is to settle the grave situation at present when the danger of war is the greatest ever since the conclusion of the armistice agreement and provide conditions for dialogue, it is natural to discuss at the same time the issue of defusing the military tensions on the Korean Peninsula proposed by the north.

It accused the south side of bringing the talks to collapse in the end while insisting on its assertions despite the sincere efforts of the north.

The authorities took such stand for fear that the resumption of the south-north dialogue and the achievement of peace on the Korean Peninsula may lead to the loss of their power which has been maintained through the alliance with the U.S., it noted.

It bitterly slammed the present "government" for ignoring the opportunity of the hard-won dialogue for gratifying its treacherous ambition.
