Korea Boasts Animal Painter
Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- Ri Am (1499-?) was a typical Korean animal colorist representing the art in the 16th century but he is still remembered by Koreans for his talent.

He drew many beautiful color paintings rich in national flavor unlike the trend of painting at that time when drawings were done in the literary artist's style and black-and-white paintings drawn in the main.

"Cat and Puppy", "Cat on Tree", "A Pair of Wild Geese", "Mother Dog" are among his paintings known so far.

Typical of them are "Cat and Puppy" and "Cat on Tree" based on the story about what happened in the world of animals.

He truthfully represented the ecological characters and life of animals with his delicate observation and ability to make accurate sketch, making every painting pervade with children's mind and cheerful and humorous attraction.

His drawings are well known not only in Korea but abroad for their high artistic value.

He was unique in painting style as he applied life-like and dynamic technique of representation strong in native flavor.
