Application of Tuition-Waiver Program to Korean Schools Called for
Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- On February 7 Sankei Shimbun of Japan carried an article titled "' Insincere, indeed,' the director-general of Korean school accuses the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of putting on hold the restart of procedures for applying tuition-waiver program to Korean schools." It said:

Director-general Kim Sun On and other officials concerned of Tokyo Korean School had a press interview as regards the above-said issue and bitterly denounced the ministry for its lack of sincerity.

"Why the ministry is discriminating against the children who are studying hard with peace in mind?" They queried.

According to Jiji Press Ltd., Deputy Head Mataichi and Chairman of the Policy Council Abe of the Social-Democratic Party met Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretaries Fujii and Fukuyama on the same day and asked for an early lifting of the stop to the procedures for applying the tuition-free program to Korean schools.

The news agency quoted Fujii and others as saying they would fully meet the request and properly discuss it.

Later Mataichi told reporters that the tuition-free program means helping children go to school and has nothing to do with the political situation.
