The DPRK is channeling efforts into the protection of swamps and the creation of forests in line with the theme.

The Nature Conservation Union of Korea and the Ministry of Land and Environmental Conservation have worked out specific plans to create shelter belts around swamps in an effort to protect the farm land and provide good habitats to animals.

Projects are making headway to survey the ecology of the swamps, designate swamp conservation areas and make a rational use of resources there.

Measures are being taken to prevent damage to forests by fire and harmful insects. Cytological engineering, genetic engineering and other bio-engineering technologies are applied to cultivate trees of good species.

The DPRK promulgated the Law on Forestation on Dec. 11, Juche 81(1992) to provide a legal guarantee for the creation of forests and their protection.
