Japan Accused of Whale Hunting
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- Japan has drawn worldwide criticism for its illegal hunting of whales.

Japanese boats have continued whaling in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans.

In recent years, 1,000 Japanese boats with at least 100,000 crewmen have engaged in whale fishing in the Pacific Ocean alone. Japanese fleets of the whalers even advanced into the Antarctic Ocean.

Whales Japan catches every year allegedly for scientific research total nearly 1,000.

Their illegal hunting has put the remaining species of whales in danger of extermination in the world.

An international organization concerned decided to prohibit all whaling fishing for commercial purpose, not research purpose, in 1986 in order to prevent the extermination of whales.

Ignoring the decision, however, Japan has refused to stop catching whales just for commercial profit.

The profit-seekers, accompanied by canning factory ships, have captured whales at random and packed their pieces to market them in Japan.

Whale meat is very expensive in shops, markets and restaurants throughout Japan and whalebones turn into high-grade craftworks.

Enormous is Japan's profits from the whale marketing.

It is natural that Japan is criticized by the international community for killing whales to rake in money.
