Kim Chaek's Death Anniversary Observed
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- A national memorial service was held at the People's Palace of Culture Monday to observe the 60th anniversary of death of revolutionary fighter Kim Chaek.

Present at the service were senior officials of party, army and state, officials of party, armed forces and power bodies, public and working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons of the Korean People's Army and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces, officials in the fields of science, education, culture and arts, public health and media, anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters, bereaved families of revolutionary martyrs, labor innovators, meritorious persons and working people in Pyongyang.

Kim Chaek took part in the anti-Japanese armed struggle following the road of the Korean revolution indicated by President Kim Il Sung and skillfully organized military and political activities. He thus made a great contribution to crushing the Japanese imperialists and achieving the historic cause of country's liberation.

After the liberation of the country Kim Chaek rendered distinguished services for building the party and the state, strengthening the revolutionary armed forces and laying the foundation of the independent national economy with intense loyalty and persevering power of execution. In that period he held such important positions as member of the Political Committee of the Party Central Committee, first director of Pyongyang Institute, vice-chairman of the People's Committee of North Korea and director of the Bureau of National Defence, vice-premier of the Cabinet and minister of Industry.

He commanded many military operations, performing shining feats in implementing the military strategic policy put forward by the President while holding the posts of a member of the DPRK Military Commission and commander of the front during the Fatherland Liberation War.

KPA Vice Marshal Ri Yong Ho, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the WPK and chief of the General Staff of the KPA, said in a memorial address that brief as Kim's life was, his life is always remembered by the party and the people as a model of a genuine revolutionary who was intensely loyal to Kim Il Sung with transparent revolutionary outlook on him.

Kim Chaek was a human shield for protecting the safety of the President, regarding it as his primary duty to ensure his safety, Ri Yong Ho noted, and continued:

His unfailing loyalty to the leader and noble traits as a revolutionary powerfully encourage the army and people of the DPRK in their dynamic advance to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche generation after generation.
