Kim Yong Nam Greets AU Summit
Pyongyang, January 30 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, Saturday sent a message of greetings to the 16th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

Kim in the message extended warm congratulations and cordial greetings to all heads of state and government and delegates present at the session in the name of the DPRK government in connection with the opening of the session in Addis Ababa amid the great expectation of the peoples of the African countries and deep concern of the international community.

The positive initiatives and efforts of the AU to settle continental issues including the political and economic integration by the efforts of the Africans in a peaceful environment, opposed to all sorts of use of force and its threat, are powerfully encouraging the regional people to build a new society and arousing widespread support and sympathy of developing countries, the message said.

Reaffirming the Korean people's firm solidarity for the just cause of the African people to build an independent and prosperous continent, the message expressed the conviction that the traditional friendly and cooperative relations between the DPRK and the AU and its member nations would steadily grow strong.

It expressed the hope that the current session which will mark another important and significant occasion in achieving the great unity and integration of Africa would yield good results in conformity with the expectation and desire of the member nations.
