Shining Path Covered by Korean Youth Movement
Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) -- January 17 marked the anniversary of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League.

The Korean youth movement has covered a glorious path, making steady progress thanks to the peerlessly great persons' idea of attaching importance to the youth.

President Kim Il Sung formed the Young Communist League of Korea on August 28, 1927 with core members of the Down-with-Imperialism Union involving young people of different strata.

Young revolutionaries became the backbone of the ranks of anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters under his care and creditably performed a vanguard role in crushing the Japanese imperialists and achieving the historic cause of national liberation.

The Democratic Youth League was founded on January 17, 1946 after liberation of Korea on the basis of the successes and experience gained in the Korean youth movement during the anti-Japanese armed struggle. Later it developed into the League of Socialist Working Youth of Korea as required by the developing revolution.

In the period of building a new country young people rendered patriotic services in rural areas and factories while playing a vanguard role in such nature-remaking projects as the Pothong River Improvement Project.

During the Fatherland Liberation War they rushed to the front and bravely fought for the Workers' Party of Korea and the leader, the country and people. In the postwar period of rehabilitation and construction and the period of the grand Chollima march they performed miracles and innovations in each construction site, making a breakthrough towards leaping advances.

Under the leadership of Kim Jong Il the LSWYK was renamed the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, a prestigious youth organization going by the august name of the President.

It was thanks to his profound trust and loving care that they built such gigantic structures as Youth Hero Motorway, the Kwangmyongsong Saltern and large power stations during the Arduous March, the forced march.

They are performing feats at the posts defending the country and in the difficult and labor-consuming work sites for making a breakthrough towards the building of a great prosperous and powerful nation.
