County Widely Known for Rapid Progress of Local Industry
Pyongyang, January 18 (KCNA) --There is an icon of local industry in the DPRK. This is Changsong County, North Phyongan Province.

95 percent of its area is covered with mountains.

In the past the people in this remote area had lived, cultivating patches of mountain land, far removed from modern civilization.

President Kim Il Sung learnt in detail about the reality of the county and living conditions of its people and clearly indicated the orientation and ways for the county to follow.

Under his wise leadership all the resources in the mountains, once regarded as useless, were fully tapped for the wellbeing of the population of the county.

Its people increased income by picking wild fruits and edible herbs and developed local industry by use of raw materials available from the mountains.

Their demands for processed foodstuff, cloth, wooden products, paper, etc. are met with county's products.

They led a stable life thanks to the self-supporting economy foundation of the county even during the Arduous March, the forced march, without depending on the state.

Local industrial factories in Changsong County registered a signal boost in production in recent years by putting their production processes on a modern and scientific basis and taking thorough measures for providing raw materials to them.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the county last year and praised it for its achievements. There he kindled a torch of a local industrial revolution.

The provinces, cities and counties are now channeling efforts into the drive to develop local industry following the example set by Changsong County.
