S. Korea Urged to come out for Dialogue and Negotiations at Early Date
Pyongyang, January 16 (KCNA) -- Dialogue and negotiations are the only way for improving the inter-Korean relations and achieving the independent and peaceful reunification of the country. The south Korean authorities should come out for dialogue and negotiations at an early date in response to the DPRK's proposal.

Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a by-lined article.

Dialogue and negotiations are the only just way for independently solving the issue of country's reunification by the concerted efforts of the Koreans, the article notes, and goes on:

No issue can be solved by way of confrontation. This is proved by the last three years of confrontation between the north and the south.

Only when the responsible authorities of the north and the south holding real power hold candid talks to wipe out misunderstanding and distrust is it possible to improve the inter-Korean relations, clear the atmosphere of hostility and pave the way for cooperation and peace.

There are a lot of good precedents in which the north and the south narrowed down bilateral differences and successfully weathered difficulties through dialogue and negotiations.

Had the north and the south defused confrontation through dialogue and negotiations last year, the situation on the Korean Peninsula would not have remained so tense as now.

How to approach dialogue and negotiations is a touchstone distinguishing patriotism from treachery and peace from division.

If the south Korean authorities wish to see the inter-Korean relations improved, without playing into the hands of foreign forces keen to do harm to the destiny of the Koreans, they should come out for dialogue and negotiations without any precondition.
