New Year's Greening Campaign Launched
Pyongyang, January 10 (KCNA) -- A greening campaign for this year has started in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Kim Hyon, a department director of the Ministry of Urban Management, told KCNA that a new scheme for afforestation has already reached a working stage throughout the country.

According to the scheme, the campaign for planting trees and flowers will take place in a scientific and artistic way.

In every provincial seat, a street will be taken as a model in the campaign and its achievements and experience will be introduced in other streets and villages.

In Pyongyang, Ponghwa Street was chosen as a model. Various species of trees and flowers are now being planted in the street.

Tree and flower nurseries and greenhouses will increase their production capacity and more than 100 new species of flowers will be cultivated for a successful campaign.

The joint New Year editorial issued by leading newspapers of the country says that the landscaping and forestation should be done on a long-term basis and in a scientific way, and that everyone should turn his or her native place and workplace into a socialist fairyland.
