At the conference the committee noted that the security authorities arrested the chief editor and the organizing chairman of the headquarters. They also forced the chairman and the secretary general of the headquarters to appear before the police, putting in question its commentary on the Yonphyong Island shelling and the event held to mark the 20th anniversary of Pomminryon, it pointed out.

It noted: The security authorities have asserted that the commentary, which was critical of the anti-reunification deeds by the present "government" denying the south-north joint declaration and engaging itself only on the war moves, was "similar to the tone of the north" and it "was worked out through conspiracy with the north in advance." Not content with this, they are branding the commemoration event as a "meeting for praising and encouraging the north."

Protesting against such actions, the committee said that the "government's" crackdown on the headquarters, a legal organization active for reunification, is aimed to create terror-ridden atmosphere and stifle the reunification movement forces at any cost.

The "government" should stop at once the reckless actions against reunification and opt for implementing the joint declaration, it urged.
