Application of Tuition-free Program for Koreans in Japan Urged
Pyongyang, December 19 (KCNA) -- An emergency meeting took place in Japan on Dec. 14 in demand of the application of tuition-waiver program for senior high schools to the Korean schools.

Present there were teachers and students of Korean schools, their parents and other Korean residents and Japanese citizens in Osaka Prefecture.

Speaking at the meeting, Mikiaki Arimoto, co-representative of the Solidarity of Citizens in Osaka Prefecture Demanding Earlier Normalization of the Relations between Japan and DPRK, accused the Japanese government of suspending the procedure for applying the program to the Korean schools under the pretext of the Yonphyong Island shelling in the West Sea of Korea.

Now is the time for teachers and students of Korean schools and their parents and Japanese citizens in Osaka Prefecture to pool their efforts for the settlement of the program issue, he stressed.

A report and speeches were made at the meeting.

The reporter and speakers said that the Japanese government's exclusion of Korean schools from the program would only raise the consciousness of national discrimination.

They urged the Japanese government not to deprive the students of their right to learning but immediately apply the program to the Korean schools.

Written requests addressed to the Japanese prime minister and the governor of Osaka Prefecture were adopted at the meeting.
