Signal Success in Sturgeon Breeding
Pyongyang, November 30 (KCNA) -- The DPRK completely succeeded in massively breeding sturgeon in freshwater and sea water after building large-scale modern sturgeon breeding centers in its western coastal area.

There appeared the Ryongjong Fish Breeding Farm in the best place near the Ryongjong Spring, one of the nation's natural monuments, where hundreds of liters of quality spring water is gushing out per second. It has established a perfect system for fish breeding, putting the sturgeon breeding and processing on the world's advanced level and succeeding in artificial hatching to open a prospect for large-scale sturgeon breeding.

It has more than 160 fish ponds depending on abundant water from the spring, hatching and fry breeding grounds, a water filtering ground, an assorted feed processing factory, a protein feed processing ground, a combined control panel, etc.

Leader Kim Jong Il, while providing on-the-spot guidance to the fish breeding ground recently, made sure that tasty dermo-carp was called "Ryongjong fish." The fish breeding ground has dozens of ponds for breeding this kind of fish.

Thanks to the recycling water system clear and pure water with a temperature of 13-14 degrees centigrade runs into the outdoor fish ponds in all seasons. They teem with new species of quality fishes which inhabit in cold and warm water including more than ten species of tens of thousands of sturgeon, each weighing 135 at maximum, rainbow trout and char.

The management and operation of the fish breeding ground has been put on the level of cutting-edge science and technology. The basic production processes and observation of the compound of the fish breeding ground and water in the breeding ponds are computerized and oxygen and feed are scientifically supplied to them on the basis of the real time monitoring of water quality in each district.

It also succeeded in fully acclimatizing sturgeon and rainbow trout artificially propagated in freshwater to sea water and realized the sea water breeding of sturgeon considered possible only in sea water with low salinity in sea water with salinity above 30 per cent.

A special area for conserving sturgeon covering more than a hundred hectares has been created in the waters off Ryongyon to bring about a great change in the sturgeon breeding.

Sea cucumber, etc. are artificially bred in the sturgeon breeding ponds and aquatic centers in the sea water are producing high quality fishes such as red sea-bream, sea bass, rock fish and shell fish.

The introduction of the principle of drawing sea water by use of tidal energy from the West Sea and a new Korean style sea cultivation method led to ensuring an intensive safe fish breeding by use of natural water without consuming even a single kilowatt of electricity and boosting the productivity by leaps and bounds.

This represents the twelfth Songun scenery in socialist Korea which witnessed a dramatic turn in the development of fish breeding as required by the 21st century.
