Signal Turn Made in Land Management
Pyongyang, November 19 (KCNA) -- Forests covering more than 1.5 million hectares have been created, taking the country as a whole and many roads constructed or repaired and rivers and streams improved in the last decade, making the appearance of the land more beautiful.

A turn has taken place in the production of saplings. Sapling production units in Pyongyang and North and South Phyongan provinces and various other parts of the country have produced saplings of good species enough to create forests of 150,000 hectares every year.

The introduction of the technology for producing saplings by use of rotating sprinkling machines, in particular, into at least 150 cities and counties to lay a foundation for increasing the production of saplings at a leaping pace.

A popular tree planting movement helped create timber forests of more than 100,000 hectares, forests of economic value covering more than 80,000 hectares, shelter belts of more than 40,000 hectares, firewood forests of more than 110,000 hectares, etc. in the recent three years.

Achievements have been made in the road construction and management. New roads with a total length of at least 1,000 kilometers have been built, taking the country as a whole.

The project for technologically updating the roads has made progress to remarkably improve the roads linking Pyongyang, Kanggye, Chongjin and Sinuiju and other provincial seats and repair structures of bridges. As a result, the security and cultural level of roads have been further raised.

River improvement projects have also made dynamic progress.

North Hamgyong Province and North Phyongan Province have carried out more than 40 river protection and improvement projects.

Projects for preventing flood damage have made brisk headway. More than 170 rivers and streams have been improved.
