Mural Paintings in Mausoleum of King Kogukwon
Pyongyang, November 16 (KCNA) -- The mausoleum of Kogukwon, a king of Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D. 668), is in Anak County, South Hwanghae Province, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The mausoleum, which is known as Anak Tomb No. 3, is one of the nation's world-famous heritages.

It, built in the middle of the 4th century, represents the culture of the East in those years and shows the advanced culture of the Korean people in the middle ages.

The mausoleum is about 33 meters long and 30 meters wide and six meters high. The chamber consists of a door, front room, passage, etc.

Each of most walls in several rooms was built with a large and plain rock and each of the doors weighs more than 500 kilograms but opens with ease.

Mural paintings on the walls of the mausoleum give a lifelike portrayal of figures, showing high techniques of painting at that time.

The mausoleum provides a glimpse of the history, customs, military affairs, architecture, painting, music, dance and other aspects of Koguryo.

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization registered 63 mural tombs of Koguryo, including the mausoleum, as heritages of the world in July Juche 93 (2004).
