New Mechanical Pencil Produced
Pyongyang, October 30 (KCNA) -- A new model of mechanical pencil has been produced by the Pyongyang Mechanical Pencil Factory.

Its trademark is Chotuijong that means first agenda.

President Kim Il Sung had the pencil issue put on the agenda at the First Session of the Provisional People's Committee of North Korea held on February 20, Juche 35 (1946).

At the session, he raised the pencil issue not just as a businesslike matter but a very important political one related to the education of children and, furthermore, to a desire of the Korean people. He also took strict measures to start the mass-production of pencils as early as possible.

True to his intention, the factory has produced many kinds of pencils in the past.

The new model, called automatic pencil, is well received by schoolchildren. When a lead is used up, extra ones come out automatically, and the lead is tough.

The plastic pencil is very low in the production cost for nonuse of nonferrous metal.

Pak Kum Song, manager of the factory, told KCNA it had reconditioned the comprehensive processing lathe to replace some ten automatic lathes, and built the new pencil production process equipped with a CNC-based lead drying process in seven months or little more.

The factory also produces different kinds of ball-point pens, gel ink pens and color pencils.
