Mother-of-pearl Workmanship
Pyongyang, October 21 (KCNA) -- Korea has a long history of mother-of-pearl workmanship.

Especially, large flower vases "Jong Il Peak Aflamed with Joy" and "Mt. Paektu Enveloped in Glee" are typical of Korean mother-of-pearl works. The vases with white mother-of-pearls on the black ground are considered to be national assets of great artistic value.

They were inlaid with tens of thousands of abalone mother-of-pearl pieces to represent tens of cranes and beautiful decorations.

Another mother-of-pearl work "Secret Camp on Mt. Paektu" is highly appreciated for its splendid and delicate feature.

"Mandarin Duck", "Wild Geese over Pidan Island" and "Eight Fairies on Mt. Kumgang" are masterpieces fully preserving the Juche character and nationality and demonstrating the development of the country's craftwork.

All of them were created by Han Jong Chol, head of the Craftwork Creative Group of the Mansudae Art Studio who was crowned with the title of People's Artist.

Han joined the art studio in Juche 72 (1983) after graduating from Pyongyang University of Fine Arts.
