Folk Games, Amusements Increasingly Popular
Pyongyang, October 19 (KCNA) -- The 8th National Ssirum (Korean wrestling) Tournament for Grand Bull Prize was held in the Ssirum Ground on Rungna Islet in September.

Ri Jo Won from North Phyongan Province won the tournament to take a grand bull weighing nearly one ton, gold cowbell and diploma.

Folk games and amusements created through many years of labor have ever developed in the country under the state care and public interest.

In this autumn season a lot of people, including youth and schoolchildren, enjoy folk games and amusements at parks, pleasure grounds and other places in red-letter days and leisure time.

Popular among them are ssirum, arm wrestling, swinging, seesaw, rope-skipping, Korean chess, koni game, cat's cradle and other contest of wits.

Arm wrestling is played by old and young people and children everywhere -- on lawn, in house and at working sit.

Little girls and boys favor rope-skipping and hide-and-seek.

The banks of the Pothong and Taedong Rivers are crowded with people and children enjoying yut and koni games and Korean chess.
