Scientists, Technicians Play Big Role in Economic Development
Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- The February 17 Shock Brigade of Scientists and Technicians is playing a big role in improving the people's living and developing the economy.

Scientists and technicians belonging to the shock brigade have found themselves in scores of major industrial establishments and co-op farms throughout the country to give them a scientific and technological assistance in their effort for increased production and technological updating.

Teachers and researchers of Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology and other universities have made a contribution to raising the combustion efficiency of boilers, prolonging the serviceable life of the equipment and putting the production processes on IT basis at the Pyongyang Thermal Power Complex.

Those dispatched to major collieries and mines in Sunchon, Tanchon and other areas have improved the tunneling, mining and coal hewing methods to suit their coal fields and mineral deposits, introducing lots of technological innovations in production.

With the help of the shock brigade, a new model of electric locomotive has been developed, the production of rolling stocks increased and the traffic control system modernized.

In the agricultural sector a production system and scientific cultivating methods of new high-yield rice strains have been established and a research into a reasonable combination of stockbreeding with crops farming with the use of man-made pastures and various kinds of assorted feed has been made to consolidate material and technological foundations for boosting the agricultural production.
