Settlement of Issue of Comfort Women Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- The Kwangju City "Assembly" of south Korea adopted a resolution in demand of the settlement of the issue of comfort women for the Imperial Japanese Army on Sept. 15.

The resolution demanded the Japanese government publicly admit, make apology and fulfill legal responsibility for the inhumane crimes committed by Japan during the past war of aggression by forcibly taking away great number of women of Asian countries and forcing them into the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army.

Japan should set up administrative and legal systems for an apology and reparation to the victims of comfort women and correctly record the crimes of sexual slavery in the history textbooks to give correct education to the younger generation, the resolution urged.

It stressed the need for the Japanese Diet to enact a special law for the settlement of the issue of comfort women at an early date.

It also underscored the need for the south Korean authorities to support the activities of the victims and non-governmental organizations desirous of the settlement and urge the Japanese government to liquidate the shameful past and stop distortion of history.
