12th Pyongyang International Film Festival Opens
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The 12th Pyongyang International Film Festival opened with due ceremony at the People's Palace of Culture on Friday.

Present there were Kang Nung Su, vice-premier, Hong Kwang Sun, chairman of the festival organizing committee who doubles as chairman of the State Film Commission, Ryang Man Gil, chairman of the Pyongyang City People's Committee, officials concerned, creators and artistes in the field of film and working people in the city.

Also present were delegations and delegates of various countries including the DPRK, those of overseas Koreans, guests of honor and members of international jury.

Present there on invitation were diplomatic envoys and embassy officials of various countries and members of missions of international organizations here.

Showed at the ceremony were videos introducing films presented to the festival.

Hong Kwang Sun in an opening address hoped that the festival would serve as a meaningful occasion for deepening ties of friendship and swapping achievements and experience gained in making films among moviemen.

Kong Kantara, under-secretary of State of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia, and Kanji Inoki, president of the Inoki Genom Joint Co., Ltd. of Japan, attended the ceremony as guests of honor. They in their congratulatory speeches said that the festival has contributed to boosting friendship among moviemen of various countries, hoping that the festival would develop into a worldwide festival of great significance.

Members of international jury were introduced.

The organizing committee of the festival hosted a reception for the festival participants at Yanggakdo International Hotel on the same day.
