Rare Birds Appear on Shore of Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu
Pyongyang, September 12 (KCNA) -- A stilt appeared on the shore of Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu on Sept. 3, drawing keen interest of people.

This bird is known to find its habitat in Northwest China, on the coast of the Caspian Sea, on the islands of the Mediterranean and in Africa, Australia and other places. It is quite rare that a flock of these birds fly past the coast of the West Sea of Korea in spring and autumn.

According to the results of the observation made by the Group for Comprehensive Exploration of Lake Chon on Mt. Paektu, the wing of the bird is 25cm long, its bill 7cm long and it weighs 150g.

It is a big bird with thin and straight bill, and its head, back, waist and lower part of its body are white, its wings are black and its legs are red.

Earlier, a wood sandpiper was observed on the shore of Lake Chon.

It is mysterious, indeed, that these birds found in relatively warm areas appeared on the above-said shore.

Dozens of species of birds have been observed and confirmed so far.

The habitation of various species of birds on the above-said shore indicates that this area is turning favorable for animals to live.
