National Day Celebrated in Pyongyang
Pyongyang, September 9 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea greets its 62nd birthday on Thursday.

On this occasion, a large number of servicepersons and citizens from all walks of life have visited President Kim Il Sung's statues in different parts of Pyongyang, including Mansu Hill, to place floral baskets and bouquets before them with deep reverence for him, who founded the DPRK.

The State Symphony Orchestra, Mansudae Art Troupe, Pyongyang Circus and other national art troupes have given performances in celebration of the national day, praising the President's ideas and feats concerning the state building and demonstrating the determination of the Korean army and people to strive for the building of a thriving socialist nation under the banner of the Republic, closely rallied around General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Public catering establishments such as the Okryu and Chongnyu restaurants in the city are decked in festive attire and serve national dishes.

Seen in the streets are DPRK flags, red flags and placards bearing such inscriptions as "September 9," "Single-hearted unity," "Thriving nation" and "Country where the people are the masters."

With monumental edifices and streets newly decorated with electric lights, the city presents a wonderful view in the evening, giving zest to people enjoying the holiday.
