National Memorial Service for Kim Hyok Held
Pyongyang, August 25 (KCNA) -- A national memorial service for revolutionary fighter Kim Hyok was held at the Central Youth Hall Wednesday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of his death.

Attending the service were Kim Yong Nam and other senior party, army and state officials, the chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Social Democratic Party, officials of party, armed forces and power organs, public organizations, ministries and national institutions, officers and men of the Korean People's Army and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces, officials of scientific, educational, cultural and art, public health and media organs and working people in the city.

Kim Hyok was a revolutionary of the proud first generation of the Korean revolution who played the role of a pace-setter in opening up a new history of unity and cohesion of the revolutionary ranks centering on the leader and a revolutionary poet who created and disseminated revolutionary song "Star of Korea."

Born into a peasant's family in North Phyongan Province, he roamed about inside and outside Korea, looking for a leader who would lead him along the patriotic path of anti-Japanese struggle. It was not until he met President Kim Il Sung in Jilin in the summer of Juche 16 (1927) that he embarked upon the road of genuine revolution. He, as a core member of the young communist league and a member of the first party organization, worked as chief editor of "Bolshevik," a revolutionary publication, and a commanding officer of the Korean Revolutionary Army.

He had bravely fought, always full of ardent passion, under the leadership of Kim Il Sung until he died a heroic death on August 25, 1930 at the age of 23.

The President made sure that his bust was erected at the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong, youth shock brigades were named after him and a slogan calling for learning after him was put up so as to make his revolutionary feats go down in history.

Choe Thae Bok, alternate Politburo member and secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, in his memorial address said that short as his life was, Kim Hyok lived a noble life of a genuine revolutionary fighter who taught how a revolutionary should uphold his leader and live and fight for the country and the revolution.

Though much water has flown under the bridge since he passed away, he is leading an eternal life, enjoying highest glory under the care of Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il, the speaker said, calling upon all the party members, servicepersons and other people to invariably and firmly defend and carry forward the precious ideological and moral treasures left behind by the revolutionary forerunners and give steady continuity to the Juche tradition of the Korean revolution.
