Kim Il Sung's Immortal Feats in Founding Air Force
Pyongyang, August 19 (KCNA) -- The air force of the Korean People's Army (KPA) has grown to be invincible revolutionary armed force under the wise guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea and the leader, defending the country and the gains of the revolution with credit.

Conspicuous in the history of the development of the Juche-oriented air force are undying feats of President Kim Il Sung.

He, who matured his plan to found the air force in the flames of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, put forward a policy to accomplish the cause by the Korean people themselves after the liberation of the country and wisely guided the effort for its implementation.

He had an aviation class included in Pyongyang Institute and sent some members of the Aviation Association and young people of worker or peasant origin to the institute to study at the class.

With them as the backbone he organized a regular flying corps on August 20, Juche 36 (1947) to declare the founding of the air force, the first of its kind in the country.

He then inspected several air units for the development of the air force.

The Korean pilots fully demonstrated their combat capability in the Korean war (June 1950-July 1953) started by the U.S. imperialists.

They shot down a U.S. strategic bomber B-29, called a "flying fortress", dived into the enemy's ships with burning fuselages and frustrated their "air supremacy" with the Juche-oriented war tactics.

At the end of the 1960s, the air force of the KPA smashed U.S. large spy plane "EC-121" into smithereens in the air to demonstrate its power again.

The air force has further strengthened to meet the demand of modern warfare under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

He, deeply aware of the important role of the air force in the strengthening of the revolutionary armed forces, has made inspections of air units to prepare them for any provocation of the enemy.
