Appeal Calls for National Reunification
Pyongyang, August 15 (KCNA) -- The North, South and Overseas Side Committees for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration Sunday made public an appeal to all the fellow countrymen at home and abroad on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Korea's liberation.

The Korean Peninsula still remains divided into two, beset with the danger of war, though 65 years have passed since its liberation, the appeal noted, and went on:

A key to solving it lies in implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration as they are declarations for the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

Military tensions and danger of war are escalating on this land day by day and this will bring the nation nothing but disaster.

Calling for resolutely smashing all the hostile acts of the U.S. imperialists and their followers keen on war and confrontation and boosting solidarity and unity among the people of all strata in the north and the south through visits and contacts, the appeal continued:

This year marks the centenary of the fabrication of the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" and the 105th anniversary of the fabrication of the "Ulsa (1905) Five-point Treaty".

All the fellow countrymen in the north and the south and abroad should wrest apology and reparation for the criminal acts Japan committed against the Korean nation through history.

The spirit of sovereignty and independence displayed by martyrs in their struggle against the Japanese imperialists is still alive in the hearts of the Koreans.

Let us put an end to national division and achieve the independent reunification without fail, carrying forward the intention of the patriotic forerunners who laid down their lives without hesitation to retake the homeland from the Japanese imperialists.

Let us rally close under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and accomplish the historic cause of national reunification.
