Japanese Public Figure Interviewed
Pyongyang, August 14 (KCNA) -- Professor at Doshisha University Kenichi Asano, a social figure of Japan, was interviewed by KCNA in Pyongyang on Friday.

He recalled that the Japanese imperialists fabricated the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" on August 22, 1910, pursuing a colonial rule over Korea and committing countless crimes against the Korean people.

Referring to the fact that he participated in the meeting for hearing testimonies made by victims of the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists against humanity held in Pyongyang on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the defeat of the Japanese imperialists and the centenary of the fabrication of the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty," he said he felt strong remorse and disgrace as a Japanese national.

Noting that the Japanese government has refused even to apologize for the crimes Japan committed against the Korean people in the past, he declared that it is a legal and ethical obligation to be fulfilled by Japan urgently to settle its past crimes.

He went on:

The Japanese government should recognize as early as possible the responsibility for the misfortune and pain inflicted upon the Korean people, make an apology to the surviving victims, the dead and their bereaved families and all other Koreans and redress its crime-woven past.

It should drop its hostile policy toward the DPRK and stop at once its unreasonable suppression of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and Koreans there.

I will as ever join all other peace-loving Japanese from all walks of life in positive activities to normalize the relations between the two countries and support Korea's reunification.
