Japan Urged to Stop Discrimination against Koreans
Pyongyang, August 14 (KCNA) -- Representatives of the Kyoto Society of Koreans in Japan for Investigation into History visited the Kyoto Prefectural Office building on August 4 to convey a written request demanding the Japanese authorities roll back the policy of discrimination against the Koreans in Japan and opt for properly settling its past crimes.

In the written request they noted that not only public circles of Japan but also the UN Commission for Eliminating Racial Discrimination and others expressed concern about the Japanese government's intention to exclude Korean schools from the tuition-waiver program for senior high schools.

They demanded the authorities of Kyoto Prefecture take measures to ensure that the Japanese government stops discriminating against Koreans in Japan.

Referring to the fact that the investigation into remains of Korean victims in Kyoto is at stalemate in the prefecture, they urged the authorities to make effective investigation and immediately return the remains to bereaved families.

A lot of artifacts of Korea were looted and vandalized during the Japanese imperialists' colonial occupation, they said, and went on: the authorities of the prefecture should look into the background against which historic relics kept in temples, museums and art galleries in Kyoto brought to Japan and return them to Korea.

They stressed the need for the authorities of Kyoto Prefecture to make efforts for Japan's settlement of its past crimes.
