Kim Il Sung's Feats in Pyongyang Reconstruction
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, has turned into a beautiful and modern city.

During the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953) the U.S. imperialists dropped no less than 428,000 bombs on the city alone, laying it in ruins.

In the hard-fought war President Kim Il Sung unfolded a blueprint for the postwar reconstruction of the city.

Late in July Juche 42 (1953) right after the ceasefire, he convened a plenary meeting of the Cabinet to call for reconstructing war-torn towns in a modern way and adopt a cabinet decision "On Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Pyongyang".

Though busy with taking care of all state affairs, he took up the chairmanship of the Pyongyang City Rehabilitation Committee and provided field guidance to many construction projects to have public demand fully met in the postwar rehabilitation.

Inspired by his far-reaching plan, all people turned out in the reconstruction of the capital.

In 1958 they, with materials and funds for 7,000 dwelling houses, built more than 20,800, one unit constructed in only 14 minutes, by employing a new method of construction.
