Korean People's War in Victory Observed
Pyongyang, August 5 (KCNA) -- A meeting and a film show took place in the Democratic Republic of Congo on July 27 on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the Fatherland Liberation War.

Otete Gaston Mboyo, chairman of the National Committee of the Genuine Lumumbist Patriotic Party of Democratic Congo, and Rohekele Andre, president of the Working Citizens' Association of Democratic Congo, said in their speeches at the meeting that the United States provoked the Korean War to nip young DPRK in the bud but sustained a defeat.

Saying that a socialist power centered on the popular masses has been built on the ruins of war, they stressed that this reality would have been unthinkable without the wise leadership provided by President Kim Il Sung and the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude displayed by the Korean people firmly armed with the Juche idea.

They noted with appreciation that the Korean people, true to the Songun politics of General Secretary Kim Jong Il, have achieved fresh world-startling successes in all fields including politics, economy and culture, undeterred by the U.S. ceaseless blockade, sanctions and military threat, thus giving full play to the advantages of socialist system.

A solidarity statement adopted at the meeting expressed full support for the stand of the government and people of the DPRK to replace the Armistice Agreement with a peace treaty and achieve the country's reunification in a peaceful way by the efforts of the Korean nation itself in the spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.

It denounced the U.S.-south Korean joint military exercises and demanded that the U.S. and the south Korean authorities halt at once all actions of threatening peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.

Participants in the meeting watched the Korean film "The Korean People's Army, Steel-Strong Ranks."
