Projects for "Improvement of Four Large Rivers" Censured
Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The chairman of the Federation of Peasants Associations of south Korea made public a statement on July 30 in denunciation of the puppet group's unpopular projects for the "improvement of four large rivers".

The statement referred to the fact that members of the environment movement organization have been on a sit-in strike in the construction sites in Ryoju, Kyonggi Province, and Haman, South Kyongsang Province, in protest against the authorities pushing ahead with the projects.

The statement denounced the Lee Myung Bak regime for taking such repressive actions as threatening the participants in the strike with government power and contemplating even legal actions against them.

Charging that the above-said projects represent an unpopular policy for degrading the ecological environment of nature, violating the right of the peasants to existence and bringing the agriculture on this land to ruin, the statement expressed positive support to the members of the environment movement organization in their just actions against those projects.

The statement said the peasants in all areas would wage a more dynamic struggle against the projects, adding that the organization would conduct a 300 000-strong signature campaign as its immediate task.
