GNP Denounced for Moves to Suppress Freedom of Assembly
Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- Civic and public organizations of south Korea including the Bar Association for Democratic Society and the Joint Conference of Human Rights Organizations held a press conference in Seoul on June 25 to protest against the moves of the "Grand National Party" (GNP) to railroad the "bill on banning night assembly" through the "National Assembly."

Speakers at the press conference branded the above-said bill introduced by the GNP as a dangerous one to abridge the freedom of the people.

They asserted that it is the most basic right of people which should be ensured to express their views through a peaceful assembly and demonstration in daytime or at night.

On the same day the Democratic Party of south Korea held a meeting of its assemblymen in the room of its floor leader and declared it would check the NA carriage of the "bill."

Noting that Lee Myung Bak, much upset by the candlelight actions of the people, is resorting to this action to ban the night assembly, the party stressed that it would surely check the passage of the evil bill as it is aimed at quelling the voices critical of the GNP and the regime.
