Brisk Solidarity Activities for Korean Schools in Japan
Pyongyang, June 26 (KCNA) -- Koreans in Japan and members of Japanese civic organizations have staged solidarity actions in demand of the solution to the issue of supporting Korean schools in Japan.

A meeting for urging the Japanese authorities to include the Korean schools in the tuition-free program for high schools was held at the hall of members of Japan's House of Representatives on June 15.

Attending it were those concerned of the Korean Human Rights Federation in Japan and Korean schools, students of Korean senior high schools in Tokyo and Kanagawa and members of the Society for Supporting Korean Schools in Kanagawa, the Japan-Korea Society for Scientific and Educational Interchange and other civic organizations of Japan and lawmakers.

At the meeting speakers recalled that the UN Commission on the Rights of Child recommended the Japanese government to settle the issue of supporting Korean schools through its examination into how the Treaty on the Rights of Child is abided by in Japan on May 27 and 28.

This is the result of the positive efforts made by Koreans of different standings for national education and children, they noted.

They stressed that Koreans in Japan would continue to conduct the brisk action of giving publicity to the validity of national education and the necessity for including Korean schools in the tuition-free program in widespread solidarity with civic organizations of Japan.

Information services and signature campaigns demanding the application of the tuition-free program to Korean schools on an equal footing have been staged nonstop in Hiroshima, Yokohama, Oyama, Tsuruhashi of Osaka and Tenno region and other parts of Japan with involvement of students of Korean schools and their parents and Korean youths in the main.
