Week of DPRK-Iran Friendship Opens
Pyongyang, June 21 (KCNA) -- A meeting for opening the week of DPRK-Iran friendship was held at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Corps Club on Monday.

Present there on invitation were Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Hossein Farahi and his party on a visit to the DPRK and Ambassador Morteza Moradian and staff members of the Iranian embassy here.

Jon Yong Jin, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and vice-chairman of the DPRK-Iran Friendship Association, officials concerned and working people in the city were on hand.

Jon Yong Jin noted at the meeting that colorful events are held in the DPRK and Iran every year to significantly commemorate the historic meeting between President Kim Il Sung and leader Seyed Ali Khamenei after setting the week of friendship.

The Iranian people have worked hard to defend the gains of the Islamic revolution, develop the economy and ensure the lasting peace and security of the region, he said.

He stressed that the Korean people extend firm support and solidarity to the Iranian government and people in their just struggle to foil the U.S. and other outside forces' moves to isolate and stifle it and defend its right to peaceful nuclear activities.

Hassan Farafi said in his speech that Seyed Ali Khamenei's visit to Pyongyang and meeting with Kim Il Sung marked an epochal occasion in developing the relations between the two countries.

He noted that the friendly relations between Iran and the DPRK have steadily developed in various fields including politics, economy and culture.

Saying that Iran and the DPRK have supported each other on the international arena with the common stand, he expressed belief that the Korean people would overcome difficulties to attain the grand goal till 2012 and win in the anti-imperialist struggle.

At the end of the meeting the participants enjoyed an art performance given by students of DPRK-Iran Friendship Pyongyang Jungsin Secondary School.
