Retraction of Bills on Retrogressive Revision of Laws Urged
Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- South Korean civic and public organizations including the Confederation of Trade Unions, the Joint Conference of Human Rights Organizations, the Citizens' Solidarity for Democratic Society and the Solidarity for Progress on June 14 issued a letter of protest to be addressed to the "Grand National Party".

The letter said that the bills on retrogressively revising laws including "bill on revising the law on assembly and demonstration" which the GNP submitted to the "National Assembly" are arousing social concern.

If the bills which call for totally banning evening rallies and increasing the police authority, etc. pass through the "National Assembly", it will mean a crude infringement upon social democracy and the human rights of the people, the letter held.

The letter urged the present "government" and the ruling party to stop such acts against democracy and human rights as suppressing the freedom of assembly and demonstration and fostering police fascist violence and immediately retract the above-mentioned bills.
