Japan Urged to Redress Its Past Crimes
Pyongyang, June 12 (KCNA) -- Japan's sincere repentance and redemption of its past crimes are beneficial not only for Japan but for peace in Asia and the rest of the world as it is in line with the requirement of the times, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a signed article.

The article cites facts to prove that Japan has zealously whitewashed and justified the wars of aggression waged by the Japanese imperialists against the Asian people in the past and has worked hard to dodge making reparation for those crimes.

A wrong history can never be written off and historical facts are bound to remain as they are, the article says, and goes on:

It is the true intention of the revived Japanese militarists to launch reinvasion and drench the Asia-Pacific with the blood shed by innocent people and fly high "Hinomaru."

It was prompted by this wild ambition for aggression that Japan has not yet redressed its past crimes.

Japan, an assailant, is under a legal and moral obligation to make sincere apology and reparation to the victims.

It is a historic task of Japan and the need of the times to redeem its past crimes. To do so serves as a barometer to discern whether Japan is willing to mend relations with its neighbors and opt for peace or to repeat its past crimes.

Japan should turn over a new leaf to head for peace if it truly wants to shake off the ill fame as a war criminal state and win international confidence.

Japan should face up to the trend of the changed times and fulfill its historical responsibility to redeem its past crimes.
