Int'l Solidarity Demanding Settlement of Japan's Past Meets
Pyongyang, May 27 (KCNA) -- A coordinating meeting of the International Solidarity Council Demanding Settlement of Japan's Past was held in Hong Kong on May 15 and 16.

Present there were a delegation of the DPRK Committee on Measures for Former Korean "Comfort Women" for Japanese Army and Drafting Victims and delegations and delegates of organizations demanding the settlement of Japan's past from China, Japan and other countries and regions.

Discussed at the meeting were issues arising in conducting a vigorous solidarity movement to give further momentum to building up the worldwide public opinion demanding the full settlement of the crimes committed against humanity by the Japanese imperialists in the past this year that sees the lapse of 65 years after the Japanese imperialists' defeat and the lapse of 100 years after the illegal "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty" was cooked up.

The meeting set the period from July 15 to August 15 as "month of international joint action for demanding Japan's redemption of its past" and decided to vigorously conduct in the period such actions as stirring up the concern and opinion of the international community over Japan's redemption of its past crimes against humanity and strongly urging the Japanese government to take a practical measure for the settlement of Japan's past. It discussed the issues to hold a meeting to listen to victims' testimonies, conduct the work of laying bare through media the crimes against humanity committed by Japan, stage protest actions outside the Japanese embassies and mass signature campaigns and launch the brisk activities calling for guaranteeing the Korean children in Japan the national educational rights and investigating the cultural assets looted by the Japanese imperialists in the past and returning them to countries to which they originally belonged, the issue to hold an annual meeting of the solidarity council and other issues.
