It brought together more than 3,000 people including student delegates and members of civic and public organization across south Korea.

They recalled that the participants in the Kwangju resistance resolutely fought against the dictatorship of the fascist military forces, shouting slogans demanding independence, democracy and reunification three decades ago.

They declared that they would struggle for the democratization of the society and the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea by inheriting the spirit displayed at that time.

A performance representing the participants in the Kwangju Popular Uprising was given at the event.
